Nouvel achat Al Thani : Yellow and Green passe sous contrôle Qatari

Yellow and Green -nom qu’elle porte en référence à la casaque de son ancien propriétaire, le Comte André de Ganay- fille de Monsun et désormais gagnante de Gr. 2 a attiré de saillantes convoitises provenant du Qatar, pays qui compte toujours plus dans le monde hippique.

Indeed, through France Galop's website, we can see that the beautiful bay filly, trained by Nicolas Clément changed owner... She will remain in training with her mentor, and get ready for her autumn circuit, with the Prix Vermeille in mind.

Bought € 160.000 as a yearling at Deauville (next sales live on France Sire TV), she was bred by Newsells Park Stud, a huge studfarm of more than 2470 acres near Newmarket, England. "Yellow is less Green than before" said Nicolas Clement after her win in the Prix Malleret. She is one of many other murchases made by Cheik Al Thani and his family, including French Fifteen, Hermival and Lancelot.

Umm Qarn Farm, the Cheik's studfarm, was set up in the 90s, a "farm in the middle of the desert" in Qatar. The stud is also represented in France through Alban de Mieulle based at Lion d'Angers. The 125 acres land was bought from the trotting trainer Gérard Delaunai. The company is very active on ht emarket, buying any horses. 
 
 
Cheikh Abdullah Al Thani, brother to H.H. Emir of Qatar, is more and more involved in thoroughbreds in France.
 
 
29 horses were bought at Deauville for an average of € 70.000 since 2009
 
Since the breeding sales in December 2009 at Deauville, Umm Qarn Farm bought 29 lots for an average of € 70. 000. In England, Umm Qarn was also on the yearlings scene in 2011, with high class purchases :
  • 300.000 gns for a Galileo colt at Tattersalls
  • 260.000 gns for a daughter of Galileo (Tattersalls also)
Back to France. The Qatari man spent € 140.000 for an Invicible Spirit filly, € 130.000 for a daughter of Dansili out of Alix Road last year at Arqana's yearlings sales in Deauville.
 
 
 
 
As for management, the thoroughbreds (around 20) are trained in Chantilly with Nicolas Clément, Freddy Head (most of the 2yos from the sales) and Maisons-Laffitte with Yannick Fouin. The pure bred Arabians (a dozen) are with Alban de Mieulle. Olivier Peslier is first jockey.
